The Rose RC55CS are the result of consistent further development of modern road bike wheels. Developed for the Shave model range and designed to meet the demands of today's bike races, they combine high aerodynamic efficiency with controlled riding behaviour and maximum weight savings. Wider tyres, higher average speeds and the resulting increased demands on riding stability formed the clear framework for the development. The result is a system with two different rim profiles, true to the principle of 'aero in the front, lightweight at the rear' – wider and maximally aerodynamic at the front, more lightweight at the rear.
While the front wheel is fully exposed to the wind and has adapted to the increased tyre widths, the air is already highly turbulent when it hits the rear wheel and the transition to the tyre is less noticeable here. The RC55CS rear wheel therefore has a profile width of 30.5 mm, which is a whole 3 mm narrower than the front wheel, bringing the weight of the entire system down to just 1280 grams. The curved shaping and the profile height of 55 mm are nevertheless clearly aerodynamically designed to increase riding stability even in crosswind conditions and to benefit from the sail effect even at a low angle of attack. The profile was optimised for this in countless wind tunnel simulations – with a reduction in steering torque of as much as 50 percent compared to its predecessor.
As with the front wheel, the inner rim width of the RC55CS rear wheel has increased to 23 mm. With modern tyre widths of 28 mm and more, the tyre thus has better support, more road contact and can be ridden with less air pressure, especially in tubeless mode. This means increased grip and comfort, whether in tight crit corners or on challenging cobblestone passages. Those who want to follow the tubeless trend will also be pleased with the moulded contact surfaces on the valve hole, which make it easier to tighten the valve nuts.
Maximum speed was also a must for the rear hub, which was developed in collaboration with the specialists from Newmen. The hub body is uncompromisingly narrow to enable improved airflow and additional weight savings. Exclusively for the RC55CS wheelset, 21 ultra-light carbon spokes are also used, which save a further 80 grams of weight compared to the 24 steel spokes of the RC55 and bring them up to absolute competition level. In addition, new plain bearings and seals reduce frictional resistance, making the wheel even faster. The reinforced hub flange on the drive side is also designed to withstand higher forces due to the large cassettes of singlespeed drivetrains, which are increasingly being used for demanding classic races in particular.
Conclusion: With the RC55CS wheelset, we have really gone all out so that you can give your all on the road. Whether in a race against others, the clock or yourself. With the RC55CS rear wheel, you get nothing more and nothing less than one part of the lightest, stiffest and most aerodynamically advanced road bike wheelset we have ever built.
